INTELLIGENCE + CHARACTER = THE GOAL OF TRUE EDUCATION

Schools across Hong Kong are increasing their focus on developing students with strong character and sound values. Meanwhile, studies have shown that character education is critically important to student achievement, both in and beyond the classroom. Have schools become too focused on exams and academic results? Have parents? What attention do we give to the overall development of the child and their character? Who are our children's models of good behavior? How do our children learn respect, empathy, resilience, self-regulation? And is this ultimately the responsibility of schools, parents or both?

LOOKING AFTER YOUR CHILD'S MENTAL WELL-BEING

It can be alarming for a parent if their child unexpectedly starts to struggle in school. These issues can develop in a variety of ways and there’s not always a singular explanation for such academic and behavioral changes. How are teachers and school administrators trained to recognize when a student is uncharacteristically struggling and what is done about it? How do schools respect the needs of each individual student to deliver what they need? And how do schools inform and work together with parents on these issues?
